Motivation and Scope
The IEEE IES Technical Committee (TC) on Smart Grids is the bridge to one of the most important business sectors of industrial electronics: the power business. Our members and activities contribute to the research, development and promotion of intelligent power solutions: controls, sensors, analytics, automation, and integration. The unique cyber-physical nature of smart grids attract authors of our journals which is reflected in the special sections organised, spanning from electric vehicle charging up to modelling and simulation.
Within the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) this TC aims:

Within the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) this TC aims:
- To develop strategies for supporting Smart Grids developments
- To develop strategies for generating cross-cutting activities with other TCs of the IES
- To provide forums and opportunities for members to exchange ideas, knowledge, experience, learning, and results in the Smart Grids area
- To stimulate cross-fertilization of technical and scientific ideas for the advancement in the field of Smart Grids
- Jointly organize Smart Grid activities in IES-related events
Within IEEE:
- To interact with other IEEE societies/initiatives and jointly organise/support events (e.g., IEEE Smart Grid Community)
- Jointly organise and support Smart Grid activities in IEEE-related events
- To support IEEE standardisation activities
Outside of IEEE:
- To interact with relevant groups active in the domain of Smart Grids (e.g., CIGRE, CIRED)
- Jointly organise and support specific events relevant to the topic of Smart Grids
